Ted Ross Meharry, 74, of Tolono, Illinois, family man, farmer and lifelong resident of Tolono, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, surrounded by loved ones.
Ted was born to Jesse Dougherty and Elinor Ross Meharry on January 13, 1952. As a lifelong farmer, he had a deep appreciation for hard work, community, and the simple joys of rural life. He shared a 48-year partnership with his beloved wife, Lizabeth Kay Meharry.
Ted was a proud father to his daughter, Alyssa Kumfer (Chad), and his son, Kendall Strohl (Cristy). He cherished his role as grandfather to Falon Kumfer and Christopher Strohl (Anna), as well as his three great-grandchildren. Ted also leaves behind his sister, Melissa Meharry, and his brother, Tim Meharry, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss his warmth and stories.
Ted found great joy in snowmobiling with friends. He enjoyed farming, where he took pride in care of the land. In his younger days, he devoted countless hours working on his cars and drag racing. Ted also treasured time spent with his faithful companion, his beloved dog Yogi.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the laughter, adventures, and the unconditional love he shared.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freese Funeral Home, 407 N. Bourne St., Tolono. Funeral Services will be a 10 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gail Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Champaign.
