Ronald “Frog” John Reis, 50, of Champaign passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2025. He was born on March 11, 1975, in Chicago, Illinois, to Elizabeth F. (Woolverton) and Ronald J. Szachowicz. Roger A. Reis adopted Ron in 1985 after his marriage to Ron’s mother. He graduated from Unity High School, Tolono, IL in 1993, where he played football, and was on the Cross-Country and Track teams. He attended the University of Illinois, Urbana.
“Frog” worked as a Painter for the University of Illinois, a profession he performed with great pride and perfection. He was a member of Painters Local Union #363.
He was a gifted artist. He enjoyed playing pool, snowboarding, and camping. He had a giving heart and loved supporting the Special Olympics and various other local benefits. He served with the Boom-Boom Boys in Tolono for a number of years. He attained the highest youth level in Scouting, Eagle Scout, BSA.
Ron is survived by his parents, Roger Reis (Savoy, IL) and Elizabeth Reis (Tolono, IL), two sisters, Shannon Reis Gemmellaro (Winter Garden, FL) and Kimberly (Kyle) Schultze (Tolono, IL), a brother-in-law, Todd Ursem (Winter Park, FL) seven nieces and nephews, Brittney (Jason) Rehberg (Winter Garden, FL), Allison Ursem (Cody Unger) (Indianapolis, IN), Jake and Zachary Ursem (Winter Garden, FL), and Ezra, Emmalyn, and Elijah Schultze (Tolono, IL), as well as two uncles, one aunt, cousins, co-workers, and many friends.
He will be deeply missed!
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., at Freese Funeral Home, Tolono, on Sunday, April 13. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
