Norene Marilyn McGhiey

Norene Marilyn McGhiey, 83, of Ogden passed away at her home, at 9:48 A.M. Monday March 7, 2022. Her family was with her, and her beloved husband Larry was holding her hand.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday March 19, 2022 at Living Word Family Church, 1000 Park Avenue, St. Joseph, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the church. Burial will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 21, 2022 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca, IL.

Norene was born January 25, 1939 in Chicago, the daughter of Albert and Ina (Almond) Wood. She married the love of her life, Lawrence "Larry" McGhiey on April 25, 1959 in Seneca, IL. He survives. Norene is also survived by her children, Melanie McGhiey of Urbana, IL; Kim (Donnie) Finley of Princeton, IL; and Lora (Brian) Holden of Ogden, IL; four grandchildren, Ben and Will Finley, Keely and Aiden Holden; two brothers, Eugene (Vivian) Wood of Parchment, MI; and Doug Wood of Seneca, IL; two nieces and two nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Norene was an active member of Living Word Family Church, St. Joseph. She retired as a Secretary from the University of Illinois Department of Atmospheric Sciences. Norene also served as an election judge for many years.

She enjoyed nature, especially horses, birds, and the woods in the springtime. She was an avid reader, a cut-throat Scrabble player, and an accomplished photographer. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with Larry, her family, her dear friend Ramona, and her two cats.
