Mary was born and raised in Illinois. She is the oldest of four, having a sister and two brothers. Mary admitted the biggest change in her life came when they got electricity and indoor plumbing! She lived through the Great Depression and saw women get the right to vote. After going to college, she landed a job with the Air Force where she met her husband, James. She was a military wife during WWII and lived in California, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Jim and Mary had two daughters, Liz and Christy. After Jim retired from the Air Force, they settled in Colorado where Mary volunteered for AARP and Easter Seals. She completed her Associates Degree in 1978 and had a career in the insurance industry. After she retired, she loved traveling, gardening, puzzle books, crochet, and watching Jeopardy.
Mary lived in the same house from 1968 until August, 2015 when she made the decision to move to Independent living in Utah. She only moved to Assister living in May of this year. She met many wonderful people over the last eight years and enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, and attending exercise classes. She participated in many outings and her favorite activity was Bingo.
She had so many Mary-isms! Her little shuffle with or without a toot, her genuine smile, wit, independence, genuine kindness with a whole lot of spunk. In a crowd, she had a tendency to use her cane as a bit of a weapon and whack someone on the ankle if they cut her off while she was walking. She was a character and her passing leaves a void where laughter was. Although her light is gone from this earth, we will experience her presence in the many warm memories we have. She is dancing with the angels and making them laugh! We love you Mary!
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bongard, Illinois.
