Marion "Ray" Foltz Obituary

Marion Raymond “Ray” Foltz, 92, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 4, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family at his home.  Known for his warm spirit and boundless generosity, Ray was a friend and neighbor to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on July 5, 1932, to Delbert and Sarah (Hoy) Foltz, Ray was one of eight children.  He grew up in Urbana and attended Urbana High School, where he proudly contributed to the school’s state championship wrestling team.  Following his graduation, Ray answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United State Marine Corps.  Over nine years of dedicated service, including time spent in Korea and Japan, he earned recognition for his courage and commitment, eventually achieving the rank of Staff Seargent before being honorably discharged in 1959.

In 1969 Ray met the love of his life, Gina (Cekander) Foltz.  The two married and shared a remarkable 55 years together, building a life centered on faith, family, and love.  Ray and Gina faithfully attended their children’s athletic events, always cheering from the sidelines, and later devoted themselves to the lives of their grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories.

Ray’s love for the great outdoors was evident in his passion for hunting and fishing, whether at a nearby fishing hole or during travels to visit family.  He was an avid bowler, golfer, and horseshoe enthusiast, and he often enjoyed long runs along the four-mile “section” in Pesotum.  Ray’s adventures also led him to discover hidden gems in diners and dives, savoring local cuisine wherever he went.

Ray found his greatest peace and connection with God in nature, often spending reflective hours on the porch.  Whether in Illinois or another state, if there was a porch, there was Ray, soaking in the beauty of the world around him and the comfort of being near his loved ones.

Ray’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Gina, and his loving family; daughters Tanya Bradshaw (Matt), Angela Woodard (Jeff), Melinda Foltz (Jeff) and son Tyler Foltz (Molly).  He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Foreman, seven adoring grandchildren, four precious great-grandchildren, one of whom shares his July birthday, and number of nieces and nephews.

As we say goodbye to our beloved “Papa” we celebrate his remarkable life and the love he poured into each of us.  His warmth, wisdom, and steadfast faith will continue to guide and inspire us.

The family wants to thank Carle Hospice for their compassion and dedication to providing exceptional care and to Ray’s amazing caregiver, Jami Warfel, whose warm and loving care was extremely professional and compassionate.  She always had a loving way of lifting Ray’s spirits and getting him to engage in daily activities and conversation.  In addition, her support, help, and kindness to Gina was above and beyond.

Respecting Ray’s long-standing wishes, a private memorial service “Celebration of Life” will be held later this year.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or St. Paul Lutheran Church, PO Box 230, Sadorus, IL 61872.
