Margaret Louise Maxwell

Margaret Louise Maxwell of rural Tolono, IL died on April 14, 2025 at Goldwater Care in Danville, IL.  Funeral services will be at Freese Funeral Home in Tolono on April 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Debra Slack officiating.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11AM, Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Bailey Memorial Cemetery, Tolono.

Margaret was born on April 15, 1929 in rural Clarence, IL to Elmer and Letitia (McCormick) Woodworth.  She married William Maxwell on January 17, 1953, in Champaign.  He preceded in death on December 31, 2012.  Surviving is a daughter, Nancy (Keith) Dalenberg of Georgetown and a son James (Becky) Maxwell of Tolono.  Survivors also include three grandchildren; Sara (Justin) Woodworth of Mahomet, Michael (Sarah) Maxwell of Tolono and Andrew Maxwell of St. Joseph, three step-grandchildren; David (Beatriz) Dalenberg of Covington, IN, Daniel (Katie) Dalenberg of Kalamazoo, MI, and Annah (Troy) Wethington of Indianapolis, IN, and three great-grandchildren; Adelyn, Olivia, and Ella Maxwell, a step-great granddaughter; Quincey Dalenberg (and her mom Chelsea).

In addition to her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.

Margaret was a member of the Tolono Presbyterian Church where she was active in different groups and the Financial Secretary for many years.  She enjoyed growing a big garden and canning and freezing the produce.  She also enjoyed sewing and mending.  If it had a hole or rip in it, she wanted to fix it.  She has made many lap robes for people in nursing home over the years.  At the ages of 92 and 93 she continued making lap robes while she lived in assisted living that were distributed to Champaign/Urbana and Danville nursing homes.

Margaret enjoyed spending time with family, especially when her great-granddaughters came across the yard from their house to see her and get something to eat and drink.
