Kenneth "Kenny" R. Wood

Kenneth Wood 86 of Champaign, formerly of Sadorus passed away at 5:45 PM, Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Autumn Leaves, Savoy.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday March 4, 2024 at First United Methodist Church of Champaign, with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating.  Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.  Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at Freese Funeral Home, Tolono.

Mr. Wood was born June 20, 1937 in Champaign County, the youngest of 11 siblings, to Roy and Emma Huffman Wood.  He married Karen McConnell on January 3, 1992 in Decatur, she survives.  Also surviving are three daughters; Jill (Rusty) Freeland of Champaign, Penni Wood of Yorkville, and Janelle (Chad) Graham of Castlerock, CO, four grandchildren; Sam (Amy) Freeland and their daughter; Riley Freeland of Champaign, Harrison (Dana) Freeland of Champaign, and Abigail and Madilyn Graham of Castlerock, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and four brothers.

He was one on the founding members of the Sadorus Sportsman Club in Sadorus.  He graduated from Unity High School where he earned 12 Varsity Letters.  He enjoyed all sports but he loved football.  He once returned a 95 yard interception for a touchdown to win the game.  He was inducted into the Unity Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.  He farmed in the Sadorus area for 51 years and drove a bus for MTD for 22 years.  He enjoyed Unity and Illinois sports and the St. Louis Cardinals. 

Memorials may be made to Unity Athletic Alumni Association (UAAA) or First United Methodist Church of Champaign.
