James Wood

James Louis Wood, age 84, passed peacefully at his home on June 22, 2023.  He was born in Champaign, Il and was a longtime resident of Urbana, IL.

James was the beloved husband of Bonnie (Johnson) Wood for 54 years and is survived by his daughters Sheryl Lancaster and Sandy Borrelli as well as his grandson and great-grandson.

He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, his parents Lawrence and Inez (James) Wood, and half-brother Robert Wood.

After James graduated Champaign Central High School in 1959, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Kitty Hawk as an aviation radio technician.  He achieved the rank of Petty Officer before his honorable discharge.  After he left the Navy, he worked for the University of Illinois Life Sciences Department in electronics engineering and was a real estate broker, builder and land developer.  He was a member of Faith Crusaders Church in Urbana; were he taught Sunday School and drove a Sunday School bus as well as assisting in construction of the facility.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 10 AM to 12 PM with funeral services at 12 PM at Faith Crusaders Church, 2111 N Willow Road, Urbana, Il 61801.  Interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo, IL.

Arrangements by Freese Funeral Home in Sidney, IL.  Memorial may be made to Faith Church in Urbana.
