Harold Hunt Thomas Sr.

Harold Hunt Thomas Sr. 100, of Philo passed away at 5:42PM, Monday, July 6, 2026 at home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Countryside United Methodist Church, Urbana, with Rec. Jeff Stahl officiating.  Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.  Visitation will be begin before the service at 9:30 AM.  Military rites will be accorded.

Harold married Elizabeth Gardener on September 14, 1946.  She passed in September 2025.  They were married a week shy of 79 years.  They have five children, Sharon (Larry) Campbell of Geneseo, IL; Harold Jr (Veronica) Thomas of St. Joseph, Peggy (Wayne) Clem of Philo, John (Ruth) Thomas of Philo and Joseph (Audra) Thomas of Champaign.  They have 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Harold served in the United States Marines Corp in World War II in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Idaho where he earned the Bronze Star.  He retired from Chanute Air Force Base in 1981, after 30 years of service.  He was a building contractor for many years and caretaker of Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo for more than 20 years before retiring in 2018.
