Georgia "Gina" Hayes, 78 of St. Joseph passed away at 12:57 P.M. Sunday January 2, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
No public services will be held.
Freese Funeral Home 302 E. Grand Ave. St. Joseph, IL is in charge of arrangements.
Gina was born July 17, 1943 at Lackawanna, NY the daughter of George J. and Mary Ann (Wetzler) Vuich. She married Glenn Hayes Jr. on June 30, 1979 in New York.
She is survived by her children; Debbie (Patrick) Zagorski of St. Joseph, Michelle Roesener of Cleveland, TN, Michael (Joey Ciraolo) Kovacs of Forestville, CA, Miranda Orsted of North Carolina, Christopher Glenn (Aurora Erickson) Hayes of Lowell, MA. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Brother Joseph Vuich and sister Mary Clarke both of Melbourne, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Gina touched countless lives in her two decades of foster parenting, tirelessly advocating for children and families. She received a special commendation in 1988 from the New York State Department of Social Services for her services. She also brought her commitment to children to the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in Fredonia, New York during her years as an Alternative Education Assistant.
This enthusiasm extended to her many hobbies. She was an avid reader, crocheter, and expert at word puzzles and board games. In her younger years, she prized her vegetable and flower gardens. What never changed was her unforgettable sense of humor, her dedication to family and friends, and her generosity of spirit.
