Gertrude Bruce

Gertrude Elizabeth (Seyler) Bruce went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 11, 2021, at the age of 90. Gert was born in Monticello Illinois. Moved with her family to Norfolk Virginia where she started the very first women's basketball team in which she played on in junior high and high school years. In her 20s she returned to Illinois and worked at GE in Decatur. After her marriage to Bill Bruce they moved to Sadorus Illinois. Bill and Gert were married 57 years. Gert was an Avon lady for over 25 years. If you would ask her Gert would say her greatest achievement was being a homemaker and raising their three children. She was a big hearted, giving, lovely person who is adored by all. Gert was preceded in death by her husband Russ (Bill) Bruce and her daughter Karen Crosby. Carl Bruce and Cindy Priest are her surviving children along with 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren with one on the way, 11 great-great Grandchildren with one on the way, And her three toy poodles. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 15th at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church in Atwood, 231 N. Illinois St. Cards can be sent to PO Box 82, Sadorus IL 61872. Donations can be made in Gert’s name to the Ignite kids program at the First Baptist Church in Atwood.
