Gerald "Dick" J Smith

Gerald “Dick” Smith, 79 of Tolono passed away at 12:45PM, Monday June 26, 2023 at Accolade Healthcare of Danville, Danville, IL.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Friday July 7, 2023 at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, with a Celebration of Life to follow at Dick and Judy’s house in Tolono.

Mr. Smith was born August 1, 1943 at Urbana, a son to Gerald O. and Marie Cobb Smith.  He married Judi Hedges on February 3, 1967 in St. Roberts, MO, she survives.  Also surviving are two children; Margie (Darin) Colter of Philo, and Travis (Holli Reinhart) of Dallas, TX, three grandchildren; Ashley, Jacob and Ben Colter, and three great-grandchildren; Addie, Riley, and Rowan Reinhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Chuck Smith and Chopper Smith, a grandson; Jordan Reinhart and two great-grandchildren; Gigi and Richard Reinhart.

Dick served in the United States Army from 1964-1967.  He also served on the Tolono Village Board, was owner/operator of Gerald R. Smith Sanitary Hauling for 35 years.  He enjoyed watching NASCAR and westerns, but most of all he enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in sports.
