Dorothy Rogers Obituary

Dorothy Irene Rogers, 99, of Tolono, IL, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024. Her extraordinary life was marked by unwavering dedication, tireless hard work, and a vibrant spirit that touched all who knew her. Born in May 1925 in Anna, IL, to Louis and Flora Stevens, Dorothy lived a fulfilling life defined by her drive to do things the right way, her unshakable belief in the power of community, and her deep commitment to bringing people together.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Donald Eugene Rogers. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Bob) (Susan) Rogers of Sadorus and David (Brenda) Rogers of Mahomet. She lit up when hearing or telling stories of the lives of her four grandchildren—Jennifer (Kris) Dillingham, Chris (Kate) Rogers, Renee (Kenneth) Pride, and Scott Rogers.  And her seven cherished great-grandchildren - Rhett (Emily) Dillingham, Reece (Ally) Dillingham, Ashlyn Dillingham, Bristol Pride, Adeline, Grayson and Harrison Rogers.  She is also survived by her brother, Charles Stevens (Age 101) of Galatia, IL.

A trailblazer in leadership and service, Dorothy was deeply involved in several organizations that held a special place in her heart. She was a 50-year member of Delmar D. Darrah Chapter #1021, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Past Matron and Treasurer for many years. Dorothy was also a Past Royal Matron of Champaign-Urbana Court #17, Order of the Amaranth; Past Grand Royal Matron of the Grand Court of Illinois, Order of the Amaranth (1992–1993); and Supreme Prelate, Supreme Council, Order of the Amaranth (1994–1995). She held various Grand Court offices and served on numerous committees, mentoring countless members along the way. Additionally, she was an active member of True Kindred and the Daughters of the Nile and served as Past Worthy High Priestess of Mizpah Shrine #11, The Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Dorothy was also a force for connection and community, organizing years of bus trips for the Champaign County Home Extension, leading bake sales, and spearheading other community events that brought people together for a shared purpose. Her belief in the value of teamwork and camaraderie was evident in every project she touched. She was also an avid league bowler for many years, competing at Unity Lanes and Old Orchard Lanes.

Never one to have idle hands, Dorothy and her husband Donald, built Rogers Mobile Estates (The Oaks) and Southview Apartments, both in Tolono. Dorothy took immense pride in her lifelong work as a landlord, forging genuine relationships with her tenants and keeping up with their lives. She approached every endeavor with an unyielding commitment to excellence, embodying the values of hard work, resilience, and determination. With her seemingly boundless energy, Dorothy made a lasting impact on all she met and inspired those around her to work hard, give back, and live authentically.
