Donald K. Hicks

 Donald K. Hicks, 80, of Royal passed away at 1:22 A.M. Monday January 2, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 7, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. Fellowship and refreshments immediately following the service in the church basement. Pastor Jay Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Friday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M.

 Freese Funeral Home 302 E. Grand Ave. St. Joseph is in charge of arrangements.

 Donald was born November 22, 1942 in Plainfield, IL. The son of Merl and Thelma (Pettinger) Hicks. He married Linda J. Hiller on May 24, 1969. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2022.

 He is survived by his sons; Matthew (Kimberly) Hicks of Collierville, TN, Andrew (Casey) Hicks of Evanston, IL. Two granddaughters Presley and Caroline Hicks. Sister Diane (Eric) Siese of Galena, IL.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob Hicks and sister Joan Hamilton.

 Donald was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Royal.

 He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving 4 years and discharged as a Lieutenant.

 Donald retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2019 as the Chief of Facilities Division after 34 years of services.

 He enjoyed farming and most of all spending time with his granddaughters.

 In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
