Nancy Madigan Obituary

Nancy Josephine Nolan Madigan, 83, of Philo passed away peacefully April 7, 2024.  Nancy was born January 24, 1941 in Champaign, IL to John and Margaret Nolan of Ivesdale, IL.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.  Surviving are her two sons, Michael Nolan Madigan, Troy, MI and John Timothy Madigan, Nashville, TN.  Also surviving is the father of her sons, Timothy Madigan, and his wife, JoEllen Madigan, who she called her best friend; her sister, Peggy French, Cincinnati, OH, nephews, Pat and Phillips French and niece, Rosemary Shumaker and many Angus cattle friends through the Midwest.

Nancy graduated from Monticello, IL schools and the University of Illinois with BS and MS degrees.  She was a full-time teacher of business courses at St. Joseph-Ogden High School and Parkland College for years, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.  She also worked at the Sidney Community Bank.

Nancy was an avid antique collector and reseller, especially of Noriake China, and enjoyed going to the antique shows and her consignment shops.  She raised cattle from the age of 10 and enjoyed traveling to many of the cattle shows, events, and Angus sales throughout the Midwest.  For the last forty years she raised performance tested registered Angus cattle until she suffered a stroke in 2020.

She was a member of the American Angus Association and the Illinois Angus Association.  She was also a member and President of the Cornbelt Angus Association and State Director of the Illinois Beef Producers Association.  She also served as Livestock Superintendent of the Champaign County Fair for several years.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception (Bongard) and St. Thomas Parish for over 50 years.  She was a devoted Illini fan and an avid support of the Chief.

Funeral services with Mass will be held Friday April 12, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bongard at 10:30 AM.  Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bongard.  Visitation will be held at 9:30 to 10:15AM Friday at the church.  Freese Funeral Home, Sidney is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Stroke Association or St. Thomas Parish, Philo.
