Thomas Hall Obituary

Thomas Rex Hall, 90, of Danville, IL passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at his home.

He was born October 24, 1933, in Richland County to Thomas E. and Caddie L. (Barker) Hall.

Thomas (Tommy) was the 8th child out of 11. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard, Warrren, Floyd (Pud), Daniel (Gene), Carroll and sisters, Delores (Sis), Edith Mae, Betty, and Shirley. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 73 years, whom he shared five children with. He is survived by his children, Tommy (Linda) Hall of Rantoul, Susan (Steve) Frederick of Oakwood, Mike (Sue) Hall of Palm Coast, FL, Cathy (Rick) Jones of Henderson, TN and Stephen (Thelma) Hall of Gifford along with 26 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and26 great, great grandchildren. One brother Jack Hall of Florida.

Dad was involved with the family business, Hall's Petroleum Maintenance that was started by his dad T. Elmo Hall and passed on to Caroll Hall upon their dad's passing. Dad started his own company, Certified Tank Testing in 1969, one of the very first companies in the US to Precision Test Underground Storage Tanks to insure their integrity and to detect any potential leaks that would contaminate the environment. In addition to being a successful business owner, dad was also an inventor. He invented the break away check valve found on virtually every gas dispenser hose to prevent the dispenser from being damaged in the event someone driving off with the nozzle still in the gas tank filler neck. Dad would lay awake at night, mind going a hundred miles an hour constantly thinking of how to improve things.

People who knew him will remember him for his great sense of humor, wit, smile, strength (ability to beat any who would dare to arm wrestle him) and being  a hard worker. His family will remember him for all these things but mostly for his love and dedication for his family. He loved to be with the grand children, being outdoors walking through the woods around the homestead, watching the deer walking through the front yard, the birds gathering at the feeder.

He married Marilyn Snyder in 1951. His love of his family was endless and his constant work to provide in every way was always on his mind, even into his 80's, he was still helping Mike in his business. Dad loved life and all that came with it. Even when his mobility became challenging, he persevered, never giving up.

Dad was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Memorials may be made to be Faith Baptist Church 920 Warrington Ave., Danville, IL.
