James E Martin

James E. Martin, 73, of Sidney passed away at 7:40 AM, Monday, March 11, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Celebration of Life will be 3:00 PM Saturday March 16, 2024 at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney.  There will be a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sidney with military rites accorded.

Mr. Martin was born December 16, 1950 in Champaign.  A son to Floyd Edwin “Eddie” and Shirley Shewhart Martin.  Surviving are two sisters; Kathy Pierce of Homer and Carol (David) Wiley of Peru, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He served in the United States Army, based in Germany during the Vietnam Era.  He loved motorcycles, riding all over Europe and the United States.  He also had a love for animals, especially cats.  He was a diesel mechanic, most recently working at Chris’s Service Company in Philo.  He volunteered at Champaign County Humane Society, Urbana.  He was also a member of Sidney American Legion Post 433.
